Solutions to Overcome NCD Challenges in Africa’s Primary Healthcare Systems
By Africa Health Business
Introduction to Discussion
There has been a surge in the burden of Non-
Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Sub-Saharan
Africa (SSA). This is largely due to the increase in
disease modifiable risk factors such as tobacco
use, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and
unhealthy diets. Furthermore, the World Health
Organization (WHO) projects that the deaths due to
NCDs in the region will increase by 27% by 2030 and
this projection will exceed the number of deaths due
to communicable, maternal, neonate, and nutritional
diseases combined.
