Africa Health Business Symposium IV: Bridging the Health Gap

By Africa Health Business

Introduction to Discussion

In Africa, the private sector delivers 50% of health services and so governments working with business partners will be key in bringing UHC.The private sector can provide skills, management, and research that can improve health by expanding access to specialised and quality services. They can also add value in areas such as supply chain and logistics, laboratory and diagnostic services, as well as communications technologies.

Conducive legal and policy environments are needed, as well as regulatory mechanisms and supportive local industry. We also need to build more trust between and among sectors.Strengthening of health IT systems is needed to adequately capture data on public-private sector performance and the establishment of effective accountability frameworks
